End of School Events

As the school year draws to a close many important events arise. The children are completing their final week of homework. Once this homework is handed in on Thursday no more home readers will go home as the library needs to start returning all loans. Therefore if you have any books at home please return them ASAP.

Next Monday (22/11) 2M will be presenting a short prayer at assembly. Please come and enjoy if you are avaliable.

Next Wednesday (24/11) is the Christmas Concert. It will be run the same as last year. Students are to attend BOTH concerts, one at 1.30pm and one at 6pm. Parents and friends are asked to view only one of these sessions, so that it is possible for all families to see their child's performance at least once. Children need to bring their costume to school, not wear it to school.

Next Friday (26/11) your child's school report will be sent home with them. We are also having a Funky hat day to support Santos Garay, who has patricipated in the State athletics championships in Townsville earlier this year. If you would like to participate in this please bring in a gold coin donation and a funky hat.

A final reminder that the school fun day is on Thursday 2nd of December, and school finishes at 12 midday on Friday the 3rd of December.

Please not send Christmas lollies to school for your child to eat or share. This does not keep with the healthy living section of our school mission.

I hope you enjoy these last few weeks of year two with your child.

Regards,
Lauren Mitchell

Grandparent's Day

Yesterday St Joseph's celebrated Grandparent's Day. Our grandparent's enjoyed a morning tea in the shed. Then we all participated in a liturgy. After that our grandparent's came back to the classroom to see what we have been learning about and to show them around the art show. Thank you to all the grandparent's who were avaliable to come, the children really enjoyed the day.

Mary MacKillop Day

On Friday we celebrated the cannonisation of Mary MacKillop. A lot of the children dressed up in 1800's clothing. We started the day with old school lessons; spelling test, maths and homework. We discussed how school would have been when Mary was alive including classrooms, lessons and punishments. We also had a visit from Sister Margaret who made sure the class was ship shape. We enjoyed a wonderful liturgy in the church then a family picnic in the parade area. The children then participated in some olden day games. We finished the day with a concert in the church.

Thank you to everyone who dresses up and participated in the day. Another thank you to the parents and children who supported the art show.

Welcome to a very busy Term 4!

Welcome back for term 4, I hope you enjoyed the holidays with family and friends. This term is extremely busy; therefore it is important to ensure that you read the newsletter for upcoming events.

This Friday, 8th of October, we are having a Wacky Pants day to assist the Jones family with costs related to travelling to Townsville for sports representative duties. The children can wear different shorts to school but still need to wear their sports polo, school socks and shoes. A gold coin donation is requested.

Next Friday, 15th October, is Mary MacKillop day at St. Joseph’s. Students are asked to dress in period clothing from the 1800’s. A Letter has been sent home this week with examples of clothing. Hiring costumes is not required and please do not send children to school in their ‘best’ clothes.

Artworx also starts next Friday night, 15th October. The grand opening on Friday night is for adults only, however I hope you can bring the children in to view the artwork on Saturday between 10am and 3pm.

Thank you for your support,
Lauren Mitchell

Term 3 Celebration of Learning inc. Dance Cart

Dear 2M Parents

As you are aware, the children have been working hard to research and build bridges this term. We would love to celebrate their learning with you next week on Thursday 16th September from 9.00-9.30am in the 2M classroom. Please adhere to these times as class procedures and timetables need to be followed.

As the end of the term is drawing near, we also have the annual Dance Cart concert next week. Please come along and enjoy the concert on Friday 17th September at 12.30pm. Please send the following costume/props along with your child on the day, as advised by the dance teachers:

Girls: will be given a pink skirt which is see through so need shorts/ bike pants underneath. Black looks best. A black T-Shirt would be good as well.

Boys: will be given strips of material to tie around their arms and head. They would look best with jeans and a dark shirt.

Where the suggested items are not available, school uniform is fine.

We hope to see you at both events.
Kind Regards

Miss Mitchell and 2M

Our Visitor Miss Haack

This week in 2M we have had a visitor, Miss Haack. She is a work experience student. She has helped us with our literacy, numeracy and making our Father's Day presents. We have all enjoyed having her here. The children of 2M hope that she will teach them one day. Thank you Miss Haack for all your help!
