Book Parade 2010

Well done to all the children (and parents) who created these wonderful costumes, they looked great. A special congratulations to Andrew who won the year 2 category. Here are some photos to enjoy.

Book Week and Writing Competition

24th August 2010

Dear 2M parents and guardians,

As I am sure the children have informed you, St. Joseph’s is running a writing competition for the end of this term. It is not compulsory; however this is a good opportunity for the children to further their writing skills. The students are required to write a short story (less than 100 words) on any topic, in their own time. I have discussed with the students the different parts of a narrative and some character ideas. I will be giving the children a small amount of class time to work on their stories but I will not be editing or checking things such as grammar and punctuation. I hope that you will support your children in this endeavour.
To celebrate Book Week we are having a character parade on Wednesday morning (25th August). Following the book parade the library is open to celebrate and display learning from each of the grades. Please come and see the bridges that year two students have been learning about and constructed. The display is open in the library on Wednesday until 5.30pm and during school hours on Thursday and Friday.

Regards,

Lauren Mitchell

Bridges

This term, in grade two we have been learning about bridges. This has included which shapes are stronger for use in bridges and their design, as well as different types of bridges. Here are some photos from our experiments so far.
